Graphic Festival

This weekend at the Sydney Opera House features an entire weekend of graphic novel related performances, forums, workshops and screenings for the inaugural Graphic Festival. I’m grateful to be leading a Comic Making workshop alongside local comics super-talents Leigh Rigozzi, Pat Grant, Andrew Weldon and Bernard Caleo at noon this Saturday.

The response has been stellar and the workshop has already been completely booked out (twice over!) We will ambitiously try to have all participants walk away with a new comic of their own making, and hopefully a rejuvenated sense of confidence and playfulness with sequential art and storytelling.

It’s hard to pick just a few highlights from this full program, but be sure to check out headliners Neil Gaiman, Eddie Campbell, Kevin Smith, Gary Groth, Shaun Tan. Highlights in the workshops include Jacky Winter Group’s Jeremy Wortsman and We Buy Your Kids; as well as supportive local comics advocates W.Chew Chan and Allen & Unwin’s Erica Wagner. In the screenings, Fears of the Dark features animation from revered comics pioneers Blutch and Charles Burns.

See you all there!
