Moon Festival
Fairfield City Council commissioned this series of characters stands for their Moon Festival celebrations in 2009.
It was a ripe opportunity for me to experiment with painting an elaborate number of layers on custom laser cut plexiglass, varying in layers and thicknesses to permit light shine through key points on each stand – the fire crackers, lanterns and the lion’s eyes.

The pieces were so unwieldy that I had to clear out my car port and paint them in rotation, but when the wind and dust got too much, the Powerhouse Youth Theatre kindly lent me some indoors space to finish off the works around their theatre groups and parkour artists in training. Here’s how they looked inside the theatre and out on the windy street during the event.
