The Eclipsing Chest
This window installation for Incu Clothing’s fashion boutique features a combination of hand-drawn elements and custom laser cut vinyl. Around the time of this work I had been exposed to a few different attempts at large scale comics – communal, public displays of sequential art – and I loved seeing people stop to share a story together in real time.
One of the great appeals of the comic book is it’s intimacy, but I was excited by the idea of stretching the boundaries of the page and the peripheral vision of the reader in one step towards webcomic’s ‘infinite canvas’. It was especially curious to see how audiences made sense of a comic on a grander canvas where reading top-down and left-right might not be intuitive or comfortable, so for my own attempt at this contemporary cave painting I tried to lead the eye with hero images and borrowing from webcomic’s use of ‘trails’.
